As a sleepy village engaged in fishing and harvesting pearls, Doha had a collection of simple 1 and 2 room houses built from stone, coral and mud.  Qatar’s growth as a modern city can be aptly attributed to the discovery of its natural gas reservoirs. Wealth creation also saw the destruction of many of its old structures to make way for the new and modern ones. Unfortunately this haste has resulted in the loss of many heritage structures, so much so that only a single wind tower remains as a reminder to a bygone era. The Museums Authority in Qatar, with an aim of protecting its heritage for the future generations, is hard at work today.
