Dubai set to introduce new passenger tax of AED 35 from June 30

The Dubai government has decided to impose a new passenger tax or service fee of AED 35 (US$9.50) on all passengers departing from or transiting through either of its two main commercial airports. This will come into effect from June 30 this year.

The revenue generated by the said service fee will be used to finance improvement of Dubai’s airport infrastructure as well as boost their capacity. The fee will be added to the price of the airline ticket for flights departing from the two airports from June 30 onwards.

The aforesaid passenger tax is expected to fetch Dubai government AED 2.73 billion (US$743 million) per annum. Cabin crews, babies who are not yet two years old and passengers whose arrival and departure flight number is the same will be exempt from paying the said fee.
