Dubai’s Islamic Authorities issue fatwa against illegal use of Wi-Fi

Dubai’s Islamic Affairs & Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) has on April 11 issued a fatwa on its website prohibiting the use of illegal Wi-Fi stating that it is not proper Islamic conduct for people to use what belongs to others without payment or without their permission.

The fatwa has been in response to a query posted by an anonymous reader under the IACAD’s modern fatwa section asking if it was permissible to use other people’s Wi-Fi service without their knowledge.

Clarifying that it won’t be wrong to use the neighbour’s Wi-Fi if he has allowed it, the edict clarified, “But if your neighbor has not granted you permission, you may not use it. Therefore, the internet should be used only after subscribing for the service."
